I gotta get up and back 'cause I've been off track

Yesterday, I copped to my struggles. Those feelings of shame and embarrassment didn't dissipate after all; just conveniently tucked away until I can handle it or choose to do something.

While reading the
blog love I received for the 143rd time again, a post title caught my attention - What Fung Shui Has to Say About Clutter . Of course, I read it. Of course, my clutter is on a much grander scale (hey - go big or go home). However, part of my current struggle has to do with the little things - the mail that piles up on the corner of my desk, the shoes I wear most often pushed to the side, the clothes. Ai yi yi, the clothes!

After reading that post, I called The Wineau.

"Dude, I need your help. Again."
"When?"

This time, we are going to tackle it all; everything. It can't stay like this. I can't stay like this.

Not sure that one step at a time is the right approach for me because I think about too much. When Regi and her crew of 2 came in, I didn't have time to truly consider stuff - Wham bam thank you ma'am! In order to minimize shame, plow through it; get it done!

Back on track...

I come from a family of hoarders - so I understand it is something that can be difficult to get a hold of, and it is all too easy to develop attachments to "stuff" that other people are going to sometimes see as completely useless. My grandfather has a room stacked floor to ceiling with comic books and LP's & 45's that he *sometimes* will agree to sell on e-bay (but not that often). My mother has a whole room devoted to art and crafting supplies that threatens to consume the rest of the house from time to time.

Although I agree with the "start small" advice, to work on the more manageable aspects, once it has become too much the "all or nothing" approach ends up being the best tactic. The only problem is, the compulsions that make you a collector are still there - and I don't think it's anything to be embarassed or ashamed about. Maybe you've got to work on ways of preventing it from getting out of hand again? I really hope things improve and wish you the best.

(Actually, originally the reason I was stopping by to comment was to say THANK YOU so much for your part in the contest over at the CDP. That was really cool of you to do that.)

@Maus - I thought once things were cleared out, it would be easy to keep it up. After 10 years of hoarding, overnight healing ain't gonna happen. I realize it; now I just have to cut myself a break. The stuff I have left to clear out are in drawers and cupboards, so I don't necessarily see it daily. It's easier to ignore. Once everything is cleared out, useless stuff is tossed out or donated or whatever, I'll have that much more space to use for my liveable stuff.

Sigh

Thank you so much for your support and encouragement, Maus :)

I am a total hoarder. But I'm trying to break myself of the habit. I hoard jewellery, clothing, and try to complete collections of EVERYTHING even if I don't like it (lol)

Hang in there!

And thanks for the link back ;)
